In September together with NUCLEATE and SFBTRR267 we hosted the workshop „Women & Career: Build a career on your own terms“.

The workshop was based on the premise that there is no universal blueprint for a successful academic career as career goals, family plans and experiences differ. Rather than following a fixed programme, the content was tailored to participants‘ interests.

A format built around the participants

The session focused on career visibility and networking, combining parenthood with an academic career and decision-making as well as building confidence and resilience.

• Networking in practice – how it works, how much it matters, how to approach it strategically and how professional networks differ by gender.
• Self-marketing and visibility
• Asking for what you need
• Family and applications – how personal circumstances influence hiring processes, and how to handle them

The exchange made clear how differently individual career paths unfold – and how valuable a setting is in which these differences can be discussed openly.
